HOW TO GET A "WET DOG" SMELL OUT OF A WOOL RUG?

It’s the wook carpet from India. Got it during Pottery Barn 3 years ago. It’s regularly had an odor. we figured it would air out eventually, though it has not. It smells similar to the soppy dog.

glade makes a rug freshener meant to cover pet smells, something like that may work. you just sprinkle it all over the rug, let it sit for a few minutes, and vacuum it back up. Chances are it will only be a temporary fix though. Wool retains some of the oils from the actual animal in it so when it is exposed to water it releases the smell of the original animal (sheep) which is what you’re noticing. I don’t think that theres much to be done long term. You might consider contacting a local steam cleaner that specializes in carpets to ask if they have a treatment for wool rugs. Good luck!
